Who doesn't like to go on a Treasure Hunt?! We are all continuously seeking treasures of different kinds: words of affirmation, promotions at work, bigger homes, nicer cars, more jewelry, and so much more that the world has to offer. What Treasures have you already acquired in your life? Doesn't it feel awful if they rust or are stolen from you? That is because these earthly treasures are temporary and can only provide superficial temporary gratification.
Have your treasures been earthly focused or God focused? Earthly treasures can rust, break or be stolen while the treasures we lay up in Heaven are eternal. Matthew 6:19-21 says: "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth or rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Where in your life are you acquiring treasures? That is where your heart lies and probably most of your time, attention, and effort. Compare this to the time, attention, and effort that you give to the Lord on a daily basis? Begin with a daily journal to reflect upon how you spend your hours each day and then evaluate their purpose. You will be surprised at how many hours can be better used throughout your day or week. By focusing on God, you will find you will have more hours in the day as He will help you prioritize your time and efforts.
We are created in His image to glorify Him with our lives. He loves us and wants us to seek His eternal treasures. Remember that the next time. you are prioritizing your day and setting goals to achieve in your life personally or professionally. Fill your heart up with His Word so your treasures will be eternal such as Matthew 6:33 states: "When seeking treasure, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
